 The Publishing House "Arms and Technologies" has published a new
volume of the Encyclopedia "Russia's Arms and Technologies". The Volume
9 covers armament and equipment for air and space defense.
The last decade of the past century, and first years of the century came, showed
that only a combination of massive air and missile attacks on military objects
and civil infrastructure can destroy a military group and even bring all military
forces of an entire state into an inefficient state. In particular, it has been
demonstrated with evidence during the NATO military operation in Yugoslavia.
At such conditions air and space defense facilities become more important than
armored vehicles and infantry, and these facilities bear the whole weight of
the task to defend against external aggression and protect the country’s integrity
and sovereignty.
The ninth volume of the Encyclopedia "Russia's Arms and Technologies"
covers modern designs made by Russian defense enterprises in the sphere of air
and space defense as well as last versions of systems used by military forces
of the USSR and other countries. These include fighters-interceptors, air missile
systems, cannons and other weapons. They are in service in the Air Force, the
Land Force and the Navy. The reader can find information about radar systems,
radio-electronic warfare equipment, radio-technical reconnaissance facilities,
automated control systems, target systems, training facilities, as well as about
such space defense components as systems for warning about missile attack, systems
for space monitoring, and facilities for space defense counteraction.
A separate section contains information about enterprises of the Russian defense
industry those design, manufacture and modernize air and space defense systems.
As in previous volumes, models of military equipment are designated according
to the Common Classifier of Supply Items, worked out by the Ministry of Defense
of the Russian Federation, and parameters of the Classifier are compliant with
foreign standards.
