Military diplomat. April, 2006.
On April 17, the eleventh volume of the encyclopaedia "Russia's Arms and Technologies.
21st Century" was presented at Moscow's President Hotel. Each new volume of
this encyclopaedia is an outstanding event in the life of the Russian military-industrial
sector. Russia's Deputy Defence Minister General of the Army Alexei Moskovsky
said, "Being a mere encyclopaedia, this edition is becoming a textbook for new
generations of Russians".
This project was launched in 2000 when the Russian Defence Ministry, the public
company Vneshtorgbankand the publishing house Oruzhiye i Tekhnologii (Arms and
Technologies) offered the encyclopaedia's first volume devoted to strategic
nuclear forces.
Vneshtorg-banksenior vice-president Valery Lukyanenko said that cooperation
with the Defence Ministry, the Federal Service on Military-technical Cooperation,
the Rosobo-ronexport State Corporation, the main national arms exporter, and
enterprises of the Russian defence industry was a high-priority aspect of the
bank's activities, and that its role as this project's general sponsor was quite
predictable.
The encyclopaedia's supplement, which was published on the 100th anniversary
of the national submarine fleet, is a wonderful present for professional sailors
and history buffs interested in the heroic past of the Russian Armed Forces
and their everyday life.
Vice-Admiral Alexander Balyberdin, deputy director of the Russian Presidential
Administration's Administrative Department and Executive secretary of the National
Maritime Collegium, sincerely thanked the volume's authors and publishers on
behalf of Russian sailors.
The publishing house Oruzhiyei Tekhnologii continues to work on new volumes
under the supervision of its Director General Nikolai Spassky. It was originally
planned to publish 14 volumes; however, 20 volumes will apparently come off
the press because experts and readers are quite interested in this edition.
There are plans to publish the next two volumes in May-June 2006.
