PRESENTATION OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA "RUSSIA'S ARMS AND TECHNOLOGIES"

 There was a presentation of the Encyclopedia "Russia's Arms and Technologies" at the Academy of Strategic Missile Forces. The first volume "Strategic Nuclear Forces" has been published by the Publishing House "Arms and Technologies". Marshal of the Russian Federation Igor Sergeev, the Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, spoke at the ceremony dedicated to this event. He noticed that the publication is aimed to achieve important goals. First of all, the Encyclopedia has to discover the content of Russia's military and technical policy at the beginning of XXI century, write about modern equipment for Armed Forces, and exhibit capabilities of our country to export arms and defense technologies.
The Defense Minister stressed on the historical experience of the second half of XX century, which allowed to realize that it was the nuclear weapon that avoided conversion of the 40-year opposition of two military blocs into a global military conflict during the "cold war". But the concepts of keeping missile and nuclear weapons at minimal stipulated levels; of forceless peace; and of international stability and security undergo many severe trials at the beginning of XXI century. The process of strategic nuclear disarmament slowed down, there are attempts to revise the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the number of countries having nuclear and missile technologies increases, international contradictions are being resolved by means of military force.
The new State military doctrine, confirmed by an edict of the President of the Russian Federation, requires reliable security of the country against internal and external threats. This goal can be achieved by equipping the Russian Army and Navy with modern arms of high efficiency including missile and nuclear weapons, which are still the most important means deterring global aggression.
Taking into account these circumstances, it is reasonable that the first volume of the Encyclopedia presented is dedicated to weapons and equipment for Russia's strategic nuclear forces. Our scientists, designers and defense industry leaders, despite of known serious difficulties, are able to ensure industrial, technological, military and technical independence of Russia in the sphere of design and manufacturing of both strategic weapons and main types of common weapons. Russian weapons and military equipment are competitive on the world weapon market and should be the same in XXI century. So, this huge publishing project presenting modern weapon models, military equipment and technologies obtains not only industrial, but also the State significance. In conclusion, Igor Sergeev expressed his confidence that publication of the Encyclopedia "Russia's Arms and Technologies" will raise interest of wide circle of specialists, will make international military and technical collaboration closer, and will be conductive to development of the defense industry.
Leaders of the Defense Ministry and defense enterprises spoke at the presentation. Closing the presentation, Nikolai Spassky, the General Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Publishing House "Arms and Technologies", noticed that other volumes about weapons for the Land Force, the Navy and the Air Force are being prepared at the present time. 12 - 14 volumes are being planned. All of them will be issued according a directive of the Defense Minister and under his general supervision.
